Watch: Baby Graduates From NICU in Tiny Cap and Gown
“We were told he had a 2 percent chance to live. Well, here’s our 2 percent.”
Molli Potter and her husband received news that no parent ever wants to hear: Their baby, Cullen, who was born at 22 weeks weighing only 13.9 ounces, had a 2 percent chance to live. In a recent Facebook post, Potter recounts this scary time, and how the couple refused to give up on their baby.
After transferring hospitals and enduring an emotionally grueling 160 days, Cullen defied the odds and finally made it home. Costumed in a tiny cap and gown, the hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit threw him a special graduation ceremony to celebrate this amazing milestone.
In the video, Cullen is held by his nurse and surrounded by his family and other staff members who were there to cheer him on.
Since the mother posted the video to her Facebook, it has been shared nearly 2,000 times and racked up more than 3,000 likes. It’s not surprising many have also left comments, sharing their joy for the entire Potter family.
“This is so sweet! This little man is going to conquer the world,” reads one comment.
“He looks so big in his [pictures], it’s easy to forget how tiny he still is. The video puts it into perspective, but he is so big compared to where he started out! Just love him so much. So happy for you all,” says another.
Another mom was able to relate to Cullen’s story, and left a message saying, “Momma to a 23-weeker here! This is the greatest video ever! Congratulations!”
With faith and a lot of fight, Cullen gave his family the perfect happy ending.
As Potter reminds us, “Here he is. Alive and thriving. Never give up.”
