MLB Star Anthony Rizzo and Emily Vakos Are Expecting Their First Baby
Anthony Rizzo is going to be a dad!
The former Yankee first baseman and his wife, Emily Vakos, shared some exciting news on January 23: they’re expecting their first child! “Kev dog is gonna be a big brother,” the four-time Gold Glove winner captioned a photo of the couple’s dachshund standing proudly next to a sonogram and sporting a ‘Big Brother’ bandana. Behind him on the couch laid a tiny onesie reading “Baby Rizzo June 2025.”
This milestone comes during a year of change for Rizzo, who is now a free agent after the Yankees declined to renew his contract for the 2025 season. While the World Series champion is still in talks about his next team, his family, friends, and fans are rallying behind him as he prepares for fatherhood.
In the comments, loved ones and teammates shared their excitement for the first-time parents. “Sooooo excited! Love you guys,” commented Rizzo’s sister Sarah. “Let’s go!” added former Yankees teammate Aaron Judge. “Dad Gang,” chimed in outfielder Alex Verdugo.
Rizzo and Vakos first met in 2016 during spring training with the Chicago Cubs. Rizzo was the team’s new first baseman, and Vakos was wrapping up her last year at Arizona State University while interning with the Cubs’ nutrition department. After dating for a little over a year, Rizzo proposed, and the couple tied the knot in December 2018.
“I had a wedding beyond anything I could have ever dreamt,” Vakos told Modern Luxury of the ceremony in 2018. “It’s going to be perfect no matter what, because you’re marrying your best friend.”
