Bravo’s Andy Cohen Jokes About Tough Toddler Bed Transition
Having a child is all about transitions. Transitions make up many of the defining moments baby’s early years. From baby food to solids, crawling to walking and diapers to pull-ups, some transitions can be pretty painless, while others can have you wanting to pull your hair out. In the wake of first steps and potty training, the transition from crib to toddler bed might not seem so momentous. But that’s where you would be wrong.
For Bravo host Andy Cohen moderating the heated Vanderpump Rules reunion is nothing compared to the drama involved in transitioning his 4-year-old Benjamin from his crib to toddler bed. Cohen recently opened up about his toddler bed terrors in an interview with his long-time friend Anderson Cooper.
“Has Wyatt moved to a toddler bed yet?” the new Daddy Diaries author asked Cooper about his son in an episode of CBS Sunday Morning. “No. What is your obsession with toddler beds,” joked Cooper. “Well, uh-huh, call me when Wyatt moves to a toddler bed. It is hell,” the single dad joked. While Cooper doubled down that it couldn’t really be that hard, Cohen laughed, warning the longtime journalist, “Oh, you are messing with your life!”
“Basically, what we’re all doing… is keeping our children in a cage, which is the crib, okay? No, I mean, they can’t get out. … But the toddler bed is a nightmare, because they now have free will. And they are coming to you at all hours. All of the rules? No more. The lines are blurred. And the power shifts. Young Benjamin holds the keys to the castle,” Cohen said, detailing his struggle.
Parents who watched the segment eagerly chimed in with their experiences. “My son kept me up for eight months solid after we put him in a toddler bed. Not my husband, ME. He is 21 now and I’m STILL bitter,” joked one mom. “I feel seen,” added another.
From physical barriers to new mental perspectives, others left their tips and tricks for this tough transition in the comments. “That’s why you install a gate on the bedroom door. They can get up but not out,” wrote one user. “There’s a clock that you can set to turn green to let him know when he can get out of bed…Check it out. Works for the littles in our family,” wrote another.
