The Hilarious Reason Amy Schumer Changed Her Son's Name
Amy Schumer is re-introducing her son to the world as Gene David Fischer! Her reason for changing her son’s middle name is both unexpected and downright hilarious.
On the latest episode of her podcast, Amy Schumer Presents: 3 Girls, 1 Keith, the comedian shared that she and her husband, Chris Fischer, had changed their 11-month-old son’s middle name due to the way it sounded.
When Gene was born last May, the couple had originally given him the middle name, Attell, after Schumer’s friend and fellow comedian, Dave Attell. However, the pair soon realized his first and middle name, when said together, sounded like the word, “genital.”
“So do you guys know that Gene, our baby’s name is officially changed? It’s now Gene David Fischer,” Schumer revealed on the podcast. “It was Gene Attell Fischer, but we realized that we by accident named our son ‘genital.’”
Claudia O’Doherty, a guest on the episode and an old friend of Schumer’s, also said, “My mom pointed that out to me actually. My mom was like, ‘Amy’s called her son ‘genital.’ And I was like, ‘What are you talking about?’ And then, she was right.”
To take things a hilarious step further, Schumer then said her son’s last name, Fischer, added salt to the injury, as it made his name sound like, “genital fisher.”
Gene’s new middle name, David, Schumer said hits “two stones,” as it references both David Attell and Schumer’s dad, Gordon David Schumer.
