American Girl Doll Reveals 2024 'Girl of the Year' Lila Monetti
As the holiday season approaches, children all over begin making their lists, and parents begin checking them twice! In anticipation of the early holiday shoppers, today * American Girl* Doll released their 2024 ‘Girl of The Year’ doll—Lila Monetti.
Joining Corinne Tan (2022) and Kavi Sharma (2023) as part of the brand’s beloved GOTY collection, Ten-year-old Lila Monetti is a confident gymnast and first-time horseback rider from St. Paul, Minnesota. Unlike the classic dolls you may remember, “Girl of the Year” dolls are based on modern characters with inspiring stories that are designed to reflect the stories of American girls today.
Lila’s story centers on her journey as the new girl on her gymnastics squad. While Lila wonders if she’s good enough to make the Xcel Gold Team and if she’ll be able to fit in, she gets the chance to go to horse camp, where she finds creative ways to train for gymnastics and forms an unexpected friendship with a horse name Hollyhock that boosts her confidence.
To celebrate Lila and further American Girl’s longstanding commitment to literacy and building strong readers, the brand will also donate $25,000 worth of Girl of the Year books to Save the Children’s U.S. Literacy Program.
“We know our fans will flip for our newest Girl of the Year, Lila Monetti, who arrives just in time for the holidays,” said Jamie Cygielman, General Manager of American Girl. “As with all our beloved characters, Lila will inspire kids to face new challenges with purpose and positivity and find the joy and strength that comes from unexpected friendships.”
In addition to her multi-layered backstory, Lila’s character comes to life as an 18-inch doll, amber eyes and caramel-colored hair styled in two half ponytails. Adorned in plenty of sparkle and shine, the Lila doll comes dressed in a glittery pink tank and track pants, plus colorful accessories—like a cool crossbody bag and frameless sunglasses.
For gymnastics fans, Lila’s collection features a doll-sized balance beam, uneven bars, and practice and competition outfits. For horseback riding fans, the new collection also includes Lila’s four-legged friend Hollyhock!
As of today, parents can purchase Lila dolls at AmericanGirl.com and at all American Girl retail locations nationwide. You can read more about Lila and her story here.
