Aly Michalka Has Welcomed Her First Baby in Home Birth
Early 2000s pop queen Aly Michalka is officially a mother!
The Aly & AJ singer welcomed her son Jack Francis on April 21 in her Santa Barbara home with husband Stephen Ringer. “It was a very peaceful and calm birth, which is really what we were hoping for,” the Phil of The Future star said of her home birth in an interview with People. Baby Jack arrived two weeks ahead of Michalka’s planned due date and weighed 6 lbs., 10 oz. “He’s just a great little guy. He’s got a really special disposition about him,” she added.
Jack, a British name that may have its origins in the old French name Jacques, traditionally means “god is gracious” or “healthy” and “strong” in if referring to its Celtic roots. For Michalka the choice to pick Jack was simple. Inspired by her late grandfather on her mom’s side, Jack had been on the top of their list for a while. “We just kind of knew immediately like, ‘Oh yeah, he’s a Jack,’” she explained.
Michalka first announced she was expecting on Instagram on January 31. “We found out the morning of our sold-out show at The Greek Theatre back in September. Our little one has been on stage with me across three states already and has even done some international traveling,” the Aly & AJ singer revealed alongside photos of her growing bump and her and her sister on tour.
Michalka went on to share that the couple would be waiting to find out the baby’s gender as she “always loved a good surprise.” In the meantime, the Potential Breakup Song artist noted that she was doing well and “busy getting the nursery ready, meeting with my birth team, eating more protein than usual, going to Pilates, getting good sleep, and drinking lots of water.”
Fellow Disney Channel alumnus, friends, actors and artists shared their love and congratulations in the comments. “So happy for you,” wrote Disney Channel star Ashley Tisdale. “Oh my beautiful friend what gorgeous news!!! Delighted for you!” added Irish actress Victoria Smurfit.
While Michalka shared the news with friends and fans over Instagram, she set up a special dinner at Pace in L.A. to tell her sister and bandmate, AJ, just days after she found out at their sold-out concert. “I was like, ‘There was a special guest that was at the Greek that you didn’t know was there,’ and she was like, ‘Who?’” Michalka told People. “I was like, ‘There’s a baby,’ and I touched my stomach, and then she was like, ‘What?!’ She was just really excited and overjoyed. From there, we told the rest of the family.”
As far as pregnancy cravings go, Micalka’s found herself craving tacos and Birria but nothing "crazy.” Closing out her announcement, Michalka opened up about being thankful for the precious time spent with her baby so far.
“Somehow we’ve been able to still spend days in the studio writing music which hopefully finds its way into baby’s soul. I’m so grateful for all the amazing women I’ve leaned on these past 6 months (you know who you are) it makes me hopeful about the goodness in the world.”
