5-Year-Old Gets Entire Family to Safety After House Catches Fire
Young kids are remarkable in so many ways, and sometimes their heroic capabilities are shocking. This was the case for one 5-year-old’s family after he saved them all from a burning house.
When Noah Woods woke up to a fire in his bedroom on February 9, he quickly sprang into action, pulling his 2-year-old sister, Lilly, and their family dog out of the house through the only available exit, his bedroom window. He then ran next door to his uncle’s house to alert him of the fire. He and four other family members were treated for minor burns and smoke inhalation, but, thanks to Noah, he and all his other family members made it out alive.
“By the grace of God, all nine of our loved ones were able to get out of our home. If it wasn’t for Noah, we may not be here today,” David Woods, Noah’s grandfather wrote in a GoFundMe post raising money to repair the damaged house. “Within minutes, all nine of us were able to get to safety.”
According to Bartow County, Georgia fire department chief Dwayne Jamison, the fire was started by an overloaded electrical outlet in Noah’s room. “We’ve seen children alert their families before,” he told CNN during an interview. “But for a 5-year-old to be alert enough to do this … that’s pretty extraordinary.”
Today, Jamison will name Noah as an honorary Bartow County firefighter and present him with a lifesaving award.
