The Bump
About This Appointment
Take a moment to reflect—in just a few days you might finally get to meet baby! Whether you’ve already started maternity leave or plan to work until the moment you’re in active labor, enjoy these last few days (maybe!) of peace and quiet.
What to Know
You’ll do a urine test and get your blood pressure and weight checked.
Your provider will listen to baby’s heartbeat.
Your provider will feel and measure your belly (check fundal height).
Your provider may check your cervix to see if you’ve begun to dilate.
Your provider may suggest the option of stripping fetal membranes.
You may have a non-stress test, particularly if your pregnancy is considered high-risk.
What to Ask
1. What natural ways do you recommend to induce labor?
2. What will happen if I go past term?
3. What resources are there if I develop postpartum depression?
