About This Appointment
You basically live at your doctor’s office now. Just kidding—but with weekly checkups from now until your due date, you’ll be seeing your provider more than ever. Be sure to meet the other partners in the practice as well—you never know who’ll be on call when baby is ready to make their debut.
What to Know
You’ll do a urine test.
You’ll get your blood pressure and weight checked.
Your doctor will listen to baby’s heartbeat.
Your provider will feel and measure your belly (aka check fundal height).
Your provider may check your cervix to see if you’ve begun to dilate
What to Ask
1. What position is baby in? If it’s breech, are there ways to move them into position?
2. What happens if I go into labor when you’re not on call? Who’s your backup?
3. Can you recommend a lactation consultant in case I need help breastfeeding?
4. What kind of fetal monitoring does the hospital require?
5. Is it still okay to have sex?
6. Any advice on what to pack in my hospital bag?
