Winslet is a gender-neutral name of English origin, with its first use recorded as a place name in the Domesday Book of 1086. The name itself is derived from wynn, meaning "joy" with the interpretation of the latter part unresolved. Two theories point to setl meaning "a seat or dwelling place," or a "stream." In modern times, Winslet is the surname of the Oscar-winning British actress Kate Winslet. One of the most famous people in the world, she is probably best known for not saving Jack Dawson from drowning.
