Terrina

Terrina is a girl’s name of Latin or possibly Irish origin. It’s a variant of Terena, which is the feminine form of Terrence, a name believed to derive from the Latin family name Terentius. Unfortunately, the meaning of Terentius has been lost to history, but it was famously borne by the African-Roman playwright Publius Terentius Afer. Another well-known bearer was the Roman scholar Marcus Terentius Varro. Terrence has also been said to derive from the old Irish name Toirdelbach, with other variants including Toirdhealbhach, Tárlach, and Traolach. This name means “instigator,” and has its roots in the Old Irish word toirdhealbh, meaning “prompting.” Whichever meaning or origin you prefer, Terrina is a lovely, less common form of Terrence that’s sure to help baby stand out from the crowd!
