Sherwood

Sherwood has bounced from place name to last name and now to first name as a masculine choice of British origin. Its pleasant chime is made more inviting by its meanings of “bright forest” and “clear wood.” Sherwood Forest, an ancient royal forest in Nottinghamshire, is the setting in which the legends of Robin Hood took place. Adding to Sherwood’s vibrant fairytale appeal is another interpretation, “the shire wood,” remindful of cozy hobbit homes, music and dancing, patches of lush farmland, and second breakfast.
