Quintain

Quintain is a boy’s name similar sounding to Quinton and Quentin. With English, French, and Latin roots, it’s largely believed to mean “fifth.” However, there is a possibility that it’s referring to “queen’s manor.” The numerical denotation is informed by a jousting practice that goes as far back as the 18th century, in which a competitor would have to strike a stationary object, called the quintain, with a lance.
