Iphigeneia
i-phige-neia,
iph(i)-geneia
Origin:Greek
Meaning:Strong-born
Iphigeneia is a feminine name of Greek origin, immortalized in the mythological world. Borne by the princess of Mycenae and daughter of Agamemnon and Clytemnestra, Iphigeneia’s is a tragic story of sacrifice. In order to protect his fleet, Agamemnon sacrificed his daughter to the goddess Artemis. This sheer injustice is made lighter in Euripides' play, Iphigeneia in Tauris, where Artemis spares Iphigeneia’s life. Meaning “strong-born,” Iphigeneia speaks of strength and endurance in challenging times and may inspire baby to be the hero in their own story.
