Iolana

Iolana is a feminine name of Hawaiian origin, meaning “to soar like a hawk.” It is partially derived from the word Hawaiian ‘io, which refers to the Hawaiian hawk. In Hawaiian culture, the Hawaiian hawk is known as Aumakua (an ancestral spirit) and is considered a messenger from God and therefore sacred.
