Gaylyn

Gaylyn, a name preferred for girls, may seem like a modern blend of “Gay” and “Lyn,” but this cool-as-a-cucumber title has roots deep in Ancient Greek. A respelling of the English Galen or Scottish Gaylin, Gaylyn can be traced back to the Greek word galḗnē, meaning “serenity,” “calmness,” and “tranquility.” In Greek philosophy, euthymia is the wisdom of living with gladness and serenity, which philosopher Democritus believed to be a foundation of human desire.
