Elmo

A century ago, the name Elmo, meaning "protector" and "God's helmet," didn't bring to mind a furry red character on the tv show Sesame Street. Of Latin, Greek, and Italian origin, it was a wildly popular name for baby boys after a fourth-century bishop Erasmus or Saint Elmo. Although the cackling sound of the “tickle me Elmo” children's toy will live forever in everyone’s minds, it's about time the name's legacy is rewritten. Whatever story baby tells, they're sure to carry a kind heart and many warm hugs.
