Clephas

Clephas is a Swiss name for boys. Also spelled as Cleophas, it’s of Greek origin and the name of one of the only two disciples who encountered Jesus going to Emmaus after his resurrection. During the Reformation in 16th century Switzerland, Protestants stopped naming their children after saints recognized by the Catholic Church. Instead, many Hebrew and Old Testament names like Clephas began to be used.
