As a form of the more popular Katie, Catie breathes fresh life into its ancient roots. Catie is one of the many charming diminutives of Catherine and Katherine, both feminine names with Greek origins. Catie’s meaning, however, is somewhat clouded and can only be assumed to be “clean,” “clear,” and “pure” from katharos, or “each of the two” from hekateros, similar to that of the Greek goddess Hekate. Its themes of purity and clarity belong to early Christian ideals.
