Brittany

Brittany is a historic and once incredibly popular girl’s name. In the 1980s, Brittany raced into the top 100 baby name charts before entering the top 10 in 1986. Three years later, Brittany had become the third most popular girls' name in the country. Chances are, you may very well know of a Brittany who was born in the 80s! Meaning “from Brittany” or “Great Britain,” the origins of this name seem pretty clear. The first use of the word Brittany was used in Northern France where a region by the same name was founded and is still called today. When French settlers went to now modern-day Great Britain, they took their local name with them and become the Bretons of England. Later the name Britain came to signify the entire country.
