Berke

Berke is a name tied to Old English, German, French, Turkic and Mongolian. This name arose in different regions and with different meanings. It developed into burhe and the Norman Burgo from the Old German burg, giving rise to Berke and Burke. In these countries, it meant "from the fortified settlement" and was generally given to people who lived near fortresses or birch trees and groves. Elsewhere, it was given the meaning of "difficult" and "hard" by Turkic and Mongolian people. One of Berke's forebearers is a grandson of Genghis Khan and ruler of the Golden Horde, a division of the Mongol Empire.
