Arne

Arne is a common Scandinavian name for boys, usage of which goes back to a runestone in the 11th century. Although it’s derived from an Old Norse term for “eagle,” it can also refer to the central stone on the floor of traditional Norwegian homes upon which the fire that provides the heating and cooking needs was lit. While there are countless personalities to have borne this name, a standout is Arne Naess Jr, a Norwegian businessman and former husband to Diana Ross. In 1985, he led the first Norwegian expedition to Mount Everest.
