Alexine

Alexine is proof that when a moniker is loved so much, it takes on a life of its own. As a derivation of Alexander and Alexandra, it harks back to Ancient Greek. Originally given as a title to one of their goddesses, it’s supposed to mean “man’s defender.” Thereon, it’s come to embody the greats that have borne this name. Flip through any history book or canonical pieces of literature, and you’ll find this to be true. Alexine Tinne is one such person. She was the first European woman to attempt to cross the African Sahara desert.
