Kameelah Phillips, MD, is a New York-based board-certified ob-gyn with over a decade of experience in women’s health. Born and raised in California, Phillips graduated from Stanford University with a degree in human biology with an emphasis in women’s health and human sexuality and completed her medical degree at the University of Southern California. Phillips completed her obstetrics and gynecology residency at the New York University School of Medicine, where she graduated with surgical honors.
Phillips is an avid traveler and has used her skills on medical missions to Ghana, Cuba and Tanzania. As an NYU resident, she was able to use her skills to save lives in Haiti during the devastating 2010 earthquake in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. She was named one of The Root’s 100 Most Influential African Americans in 2020 for her advocacy in reclaiming the contribution of enslaved women in the history of gynecology.
She is the founder of Calla Women’s Health, a high-touch private practice in New York City where she practices full scope ob-gyn care. Phillips is an experienced public speaker and media contributor who enjoys educating women and girls about their bodies and discussing all the “things you were afraid to ask” your doctor. She has a passion for menopause management, sexual medicine and lactation. She is a frequent media contributor to various outlets including the Drew Barrymore Show, CNN and ABC. She's the author of The Hysterectomy Handbook: A Girlfriend’s Guide for Your Hysterectomy Journey (release date May 2025).
