Shin is a name that baby will undoubtedly dig. Thought to have Japanese origins, it can mean several different things depending on the kanji used to write it, with one such possibility being 真, meaning “real” or “genuine.” It may also have Korean and Chinese roots as a last name. Additionally, Shin appears in Gaelic as the last name Ó Seanachain, derived from the word sean, meaning “old.” There may be links to the English last name Shinn, traditionally seen as a nickname from the Middle English shin(ne), meaning “fair handsome.” From east to west, baby Shin will find traces of their name in many different languages, places, and cultures, reminding them that everything is connected, even in the smallest ways.
