The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recalled about 8,000 Yu Wei drop-side cribs today owing to potential entrapment, suffocation, strangulation and falling hazards. The drop-side rails on the crib can malfunction or unexpectedly fall down or detach, creating a space in which a child can become trapped, causing strangulation or suffocation. Children also could fall out of the crib. There were nine incidents of the drop-side rails malfunctioning, including one incident in which a child received mild cuts on his arm. The cribs being recalled were sold under the model names Scroll and Lauren in antique white, pecan and dark cherry colors. The Scroll crib has the model number 343-8225 and was sold from January 2006 to December 2010. The Lauren crib has the model number 343-9117 and was sold from January 2007 to December 2010. If you have one of these drop-side cribs, stop using it immediately and contact Yu Wei to get a free immobilizer kit that will stop the drop-side from moving down. In the meantime, find a safe, alternate sleeping space for your child. You can contact Yu Wei by phone at (877) 806-8190.
