In a nutshell:
Based on hands-on product testing and extensive market research, we chose the Baby’s Brew 3.0 Portable Bottle Warmer as the overall best. This option stood out because of its compact, lightweight design, temperature controls and ability to heat a baby bottle quickly and efficiently on the go.

Whether you’re breastfeeding or bottle-feeding, there may come a time when you need to warm some milk for baby on the go—and whether it’s a family vacation or a day trip to grandma’s, we all know babies don’t exactly like to be kept waiting! That’s where a portable bottle warmer comes in.

Portable bottle warmers come in several varieties; some work via heat induction, others by keeping hot water in a thermos for later use. They can be powered by rechargeable batteries, wall sockets, or even no electricity at all. As a mom of two little boys (including a hungry 10-month-old), I need a quick, efficient, bottle warmer that’s easy to use and can heat the supplemental breast milk I provide for my baby. Even as a stay-at-home mom and freelance writer whose work is primarily in the home, I love the freedom of travel-friendly options for day trips. Bonus points if I can throw it in my already jam-packed diaper bag. Keep reading to shop my favorite picks for the best portable bottle warmers on the market right now, then learn more about what to look for in a travel bottle warmer.

How We Tested and Chose the Portable Bottle Warmers

Two things that don’t mix? A hungry baby and traveling. Fortunately, a portable bottle warmer can help you out in a pinch. To help you find the best portable bottle warmers on the market today, The Bump editorial team and I took the following steps:

  • I personally put eight portable bottle warmers to the test. I followed the assembly instructions and user guides supplied with the portable bottle warmers. I then heated my breast milk per each product’s instruction manual. I also tested any additional features; such as sanitizing pacifiers or heating baby food. After using each device, I cleaned the portable bottle warmers as directed. All this to determine which product is best for busy parents on the go.
  • After completing the steps above, I evaluated the portable bottle warmers based on the following criteria: assembly, portability, temperature controls, speed and additional features. From there each model received a score out of 10, with 1 being the worst possible score and 10 being the best.
  • As part of our research, we consulted guidelines by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on the proper storage and preparation of breast milk.
  • To see how these portable bottle warmers worked for a variety of families, we conducted exhaustive market research, scouring forums and message boards and reading user reviews to find out what parents across the country looked for in this type of device.

Best Portable Bottle Warmers

Overall best portable bottle warmer

Baby's Brew Bottle Warmer with 4 Adapters
Image: Target
What We Love
  • Fits in a cup holder
  • Fits 38 bottle brands
  • Slow heat technology ensures no hotspots
Things To Consider
  • Only comes with one silicone ring, which can easily be misplaced

Baby’s Brew 3.0 Portable Bottle Warmer checks all the boxes for the best portable bottle warmer for breast milk or formula. It’s compact, lightweight and, best of all, efficient. The instructions for use are printed right on the outside of the box, making it easy to warm up a bottle right away. The device is compatible with 20 baby bottle brands, including the Philips Avent Natural bottles I use to feed my son supplemental breast milk. But I was impressed by the fact that it came with four adapters that accommodate 18 different brands, including both wide and narrow-neck bottles. The bottle screwed directly into the warmer easily and securely, without any leaking.

I love the heat settings on the Baby's Brew warmer. The four set temperatures are 80 F, 98 F, 103 F and 110 F, and the controls are super-easy to operate. There’s a single button at the base of the device, which you press and hold to turn it on or off, while quick presses let you adjust the temperature setting. Since breast milk touches the warmer, it needs to be cleaned after every use. However, it’s so simple to clean with either a breast pump wipe or a damp cloth, that I didn't find this to be a problem.

The compact size of this portable bottle warmer is also worth mentioning—it’s small enough to fit in a cup holder! Although it doesn’t come with a carry bag, I packed the Baby’s Brew warmer in my sling handbag and my diaper bag without adding any extra bulk. I also like that the cord was compatible with my iPhone 15 charger (C charger), making it so convenient to charge in the car or at home.

This handy little appliance came in clutch on a day trip to our local farm for an Easter egg hunt with my family. I had a bottle of pumped breast milk in a travel cooler bag and I simply screwed it into the warmer. Within a little over three minutes, my son’s bottle was warmed to a perfect body temperature of 98 degrees. There were no hot spots, and the milk warmed evenly and he took his bottle (very happily!) right away.

“Baby's Brew 3.0 Portable Bottle Warmer Pro has everything you would want in a baby bottle warmer. It fits right into the car cup holder while warming, it’s easily transported in a diaper bag and it warms baby's bottle to the perfect temperature. I would definitely recommend it to both a formula feeding and breastfeeding mom!”

Best bottle warmer for breast milk

Portable Bottle and Breastmilk Warmer
Image: Baby Brezza
What We Love
  • Sleek design
  • Countdown timer
  • Steady warm setting preserves breast milk nutrients
Things To Consider
  • Water level can be difficult to see
  • Better for use at a destination than on-the-go

This device is unique in that it features two different warming methods that ensure baby’s meal is the perfect temperature every time. The “quick warm” setting uses steam heat for formula bottles and baby food, while the “steady warm” setting uses a water bath to gently warm breast milk, all while preserving essential milk proteins. It’s worth noting that many bottle warmers on the market exclusively use steam heat, which can heat breast milk too quickly, causing hot spots, overheating and a loss of nutrients. Due to the precise settings, I would not be concerned about burning or damaging precious breast milk nutrients with this warmer.

Before I got started, I had to pour enough water into the bottle warmer so that it matched the milk level of the bottle. While the warmer came with a measuring vial, I did need a pitcher to effectively add the correct amount of water. Once this step was completed, I pressed the “cold” button (since my breast milk came out of the fridge), and then hit “steady warm" to begin the warming cycle. In total, it took 4 minutes to heat my baby's 4 ounce bottle using this setting. While this bottle warmer takes a bit longer than some of the less expensive steam heat options, I felt that the steady warm temperature setting was gentle and did not overheat my breastmilk.

One of my favorite features is the countdown timer which indicates how much time is left until my baby’s bottle is ready. Upon completion, the device makes a beeping sound and automatically shuts off for safety. I also love that there is a defrost setting, especially when my baby is hungry and my husband needs to quickly prepare some frozen breast milk. While it’s incredibly lightweight, this model is larger than other travel bottle warmers and has to be plugged at the mains. While it wouldn’t fit in a cup holder or my diaper bag, I would pack it for day trips and extended stays because of its many great features.

Dimensions: 11.5" (H) x 5.5" (W) x 6.5" (D) | Weight: 3 lbs. | Auto shut-off: Yes

Our product tester says: “At around $60, this warmer is well worth the price. It packs a bunch of great features. I love that it is a lightweight option, with plenty of up-to-date technology. I would buy this warmer for myself or another mom!”

What We Love
  • Car adapter
  • Timer for automatic warming
  • Rapid steam mode heats a bottle in 80 seconds
Things To Consider
  • No carry bag
  • Doesn’t fit in a cup holder
  • Instructions were a little confusing

This travel-friendly bottle warmer features the word “smart” in the title—with good reason. The warmer detects the temperature of baby’s bottle and automatically determines the optimal heating times for your baby’s milk. Talk about a game-changer!

It’s a relatively lightweight bottle warmer, but it doesn’t fit into a cup holder or diaper bag, so a purpose-built carry bag for the warmer and cables would have been a nice addition. With that said, it does come complete with a car AC port, so you can charge it on the move making it a great option for road trips. And although you do have to add water, this bottle warmer didn’t leak, which is a huge plus.

Another fantastic feature was the delayed warming feature. My baby wakes up around midnight every night, so I was able to program the warmer to automatically begin warming at that time. I also love that with the “keep warm” function, I can heat a bottle and then heat a baby food jar and keep it warm (98.6 degrees) for up to one hour. This feature is perfect for my happy little eater who looks for food about a half hour after his bottle feed!

Dimensions: 7" (L) x 5.5" (W) X 3” (D) | Weight: 2 lbs. | Auto shut-off: Yes

Our product tester says:
“The bottle was heated to perfection as it automatically adjusts the warming time to achieve an optimal temperature. The milk was warmed evenly and without any hot spots.”

What We Love
  • Long battery life
  • Heats milk in 2 to 3 minutes
  • Fits in a cup holder
Things To Consider
  • Silicone rings need to be very secure or the bottle will leak
  • Must be used with an adapter

Need a warm bottle for baby in a flash? Enter Momcozy Cordless Portable Baby Bottle Warmer. The bottle warmer charges lightning fast and requires no water for use, so it’s ready to go right out of the box.

The controls—which can be set to Fahrenheit or Celsius—are simple to operate and offer six different temperature settings. I heated my baby’s supplemental 1.5 ounce bottle in two minutes flat, while a 3.5 ounce bottle only took about three minutes. I was so impressed with how quickly this warmer achieved the optimal temperature. While other compact bottle warmers can take up to ten minutes to complete a warming cycle, this little device heats up in no time at all.

I used this portable milk warmer while playing outside with my toddler and 10-month-old. It was so convenient to have on hand and I loved that I didn’t have to disturb my toddler’s outdoor time to come in and warm up his little brother’s bottle.

Dimensions: 7" (L) x 5.5" (W) X 3" (D) | Weight: 2 lbs. | Auto shut-off: Yes

Our product tester says:
“It heated very cold milk at a steady pace and took about 3 minutes to get to 98 degrees. The bottle heated my breast milk to a perfect body temperature with no hot-spots.”

Best budget-friendly bottle warmer

The First Years Baby Bottle Warmer and Sterilizer - Pacifier and Bottle Nipple Sanitizer
Image: Target
What We Love
  • Sanitizes pacifiers
  • Heats breast milk, formula and baby food
  • Affordable price point
Things To Consider
  • Not suitable for glass bottles
  • Can overheat milk, damaging breast milk nutrients

With a price tag under $20, you’ll be hard pressed to find another portable bottle warmer as good as this one by The First Years. Doubling as a sterilizer, this warmer uses steam heat to sanitize pacifiers or quickly warm baby bottles and food jars. While there is no temperature indicator, the milk is warmed by measuring out the desired amount of water based on how many ounces of milk (note: breastmilk or formula require different amounts) you're preparing. I like that it comes with a vial to help you precisely measure the amount of water that needs to be added. And there's a slot in the back of the appliance for the “warming card” complete with heating times per ounce for both breastmilk and formula. It’s also very simple to operate with one button that lights up while warming and an automatic shut-off feature. The simple device has no advanced settings, but the use of steam heat gives the bottle a nice, even temperature. And I personally love that it heats up within a minute!

This portable bottle warmer takes up very little room in a pantry and occupies minimal counter space. While it doesn’t come with a travel bag, I still packed it up and brought it with me on trips to my parents and friend’s homes. It doesn’t fit into a cup holder, but it fits into my diaper bag, even if it is a little bulkier than other options. While it requires an outlet for use when traveling, I like that the box is so compact and holds all of the pieces nicely, so I do still consider it to be a lightweight, portable option. On a final note: I love that the water vial, basket, ring and sanitizer lid are all top-rack dishwasher-safe, making it easy to clean the individual components.

Dimensions: 4.6" (L) x 4.6" (W) 6.5" (H) | Weight: 1 lb | Auto shut-off: Yes

Our product tester says:
“At around $20, you get huge value for your money with this bottle warmer. Not only does it sterilize, but it heats bottles so quickly and efficiently. While it doesn't have many of the bells and whistles (temperature controls or defrost settings), I love the safety feature of the automatic shutoff and I feel the features exceed the price point.”

Best insulated portable bottle warmer

Kiinde Kozii Voyager, Compact Travel Bottle Warmer for Breast Milk
Image: Walmart
What We Love
  • Budget-friendly
  • Kept water hot for hours
  • Two warming cups heat different size bottles or food pouches
Things To Consider
  • No temperature controls
  • I didn’t love handling boiling water around my baby and toddler

The Kiinde Kozii Voyager Travel Bottle Warmer is the perfect option to take on the go. Whether you’re heating breastmilk, formula or baby food, this simple thermos-style bottle warmer does the job. Assembly was a breeze and, since this warmer uses hot water, there are no buttons, controls or electricity required. Better yet, it fits right into my car and stroller cup holder and doesn’t add a tremendous amount of weight to a diaper bag, making it the perfect choice for quick outings or long car journeys.

The travel bottle warmer comes with a stainless steel water container and an insulated outer shell that breaks apart to become two warming cups. To heat a bottle, simply place it in a warming cup and pour in water from the flask. Thanks to the stainless steel construction the water stays hot for over eight hours! I especially love that it came with two warming cups; one tall and one short. This allowed me to heat both a baby food pouch and a bottle at the same time if needed. And cleaning this warmer was so easy; I simply used a bottle brush, which easily sanitized all surfaces.

While this is somewhat of an old-school method, I still felt that this portable bottle warmer heated my baby's food pouches and bottles to perfection. I was able to pull out the bottle after about two minutes and tested the temperature on my forearm to ensure that the milk did not get too hot.

Dimensions: 4" (L) x 4" (W) x 8.7" (H) | Weight: 1.2 lbs. | Auto shut-off: No

Our product tester says:
“The Kozii Voyager fits nicely into my diaper bag and it also fits in my car and stroller cup holder—so I don't have to waste precious space if my diaper bag is full with many other items for my baby and toddler.”

What to Look for in a Travel Bottle Warmer

The first thing to consider when you’re looking for a bottle warmer is how you’ll use it. If you’re looking for a smaller model that’ll use up less shelf space at home and pack well into a suitcase for setup at your destination, a smaller model of a normal bottle warmer—the type that plugs into a wall socket—will get the job done. If you want something for use in a car or on a hiking trip, you’ll need something that’s not tied to a power source. You might want a rechargeable, battery-powered bottle warmer or an electricity-free thermos-style option. But whichever model you choose, we’ve gathered a few things to consider when shopping for the best portable bottle warmer:

  • Size. Will the bottle warmer sit on a hotel bedside table? Or does it need to be stashed in a diaper bag? Bottle warmer sizes vary, and some are bulkier than others. For the utmost in on-the-go convenience, a thermos-style portable milk warmer makes a great option. Personally, I enjoyed the lightweight models that could easily fit back into the packaging for easy transportation to my parent’s house as well as warmers that easily fit into the cup holder in my car and stroller.
  • Power source. The earliest bottle warmer models operated by plugging them into an electrical socket. But today, you can find rechargeable USB bottle warmers or cordless bottle warmers that operate using batteries. Consider what, if any, power source you might need before shopping. I particularly loved when a warmer had a USB-C cable for charging, as this meant I could keep the cord in my diaper bag or handbag, and use my iPhone charger as an additional cord for car charging.
  • Ease of cleaning. When it comes to anything related to babies, convenience and cleanliness are key! Look for a travel bottle warmer that’s easy to clean, rather than having tons of parts to remove and replace before using. Components and/or adapters that are dishwasher safe or can be easily wiped down are a bonus!

And when it comes to feeding baby, keep in mind that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends using breast milk within two hours of coming to room temperature. So if you use a portable bottle warmer to warm milk, it’s important that you feed it to baby right away. In addition, it’s never safe to refreeze milk that has been thawed or warmed in a bottle warmer.
