In a nutshell:
Based on a survey of almost 350 parents in The Bump community, extensive market research and our own experiences with baby clothing, we chose Burt’s Bees Baby as the overall best organic baby clothes brand. This brand stood out for its quality construction, cute prints and soft, breathable fabric.

As a mom of two, I’ve always been mindful of the choices I make for my children. I remember marveling at how soft and delicate my babies’ skin was at birth. I was already conscious of using fragrance-free, gentle laundry detergents to protect them from irritants, and it felt like a natural extension to seek out baby clothing made from just as pure and safe materials—specifically organic fabrics.

Having spent over a decade in the fashion industry, I’ve seen how much the industry impacts the environment up close. That’s why choosing organic baby clothes free from pesticides, synthetic chemicals and dyes felt like the obvious choice for me. I wanted peace of mind knowing that not only were my little one’s clothes gentler on their sensitive skin, but they were also better for the planet. Tia Cibani, designer at TiA CiBANi, agrees: “Of course I think babies should wear organic clothing,” she says. “They’re so new, they’re so delicate… their skin is so permeable and we don’t want to expose them, as much as we can [avoid it] to anything toxic.” Organic clothing can cost a little more, but I believe when we can make choices that support both our children’s health and the planet, it’s worth it. After all, it isn’t just about dressing baby in soft fabrics, but also ensuring that their clothing is safe, gentle, and made with conscious care for the environment they’ll one day inherit.

How We Chose the Best Organic Baby Clothes Brands

To find the best organic baby clothing brands on the market:

  • We surveyed parents in The Bump community for insight into their favorite organic baby clothing brands, their needs, pain points (such as price and durability), what they looked for in organic baby clothing, and their likes and dislikes about popular brands on the market.
  • We conducted extensive market research, exploring forums, message boards and user reviews to discover which organic baby clothing brands were most trusted by parents and why.

Best Organic Baby Clothes Brands

Overall best organic baby clothes brand

Burts Bees Baby

What We Love
  • Soft fabrics
  • Cute prints
  • Affordable
Things To Consider
  • Runs a little large

Burt’s Bees Baby was the overwhelming top choice of parents for organic baby clothing—both in our research, and in our survey respondents. In fact, a whopping 38% of survey respondents flagged Burt’s Bees Baby as their favorite organic baby clothes brand. And as a mom of two boys, I’d have to agree! I have hand-me-downs that my little guy wears from his older brother, and I continue to be a regular customer of Burt’s Bees Baby. This OEKO-TEX-certified brand is beloved for its’ quality construction, adorable prints and incredibly soft, 100% organic breathable cotton. As Christine, a mom of a 9-month-old, says, “Burts bees baby has the softest fabrics and most stylish prints.” My boys’ wardrobes were practically built around Burt’s Bees Baby in the newborn days—footed sleepers were a constant, followed by bodysuits and rompers as they grew. I personally don’t know a single mom who hasn’t raved about the quality, comfort and longevity of Burt’s Bees.

Until recently, one of the few drawbacks parents mentioned was that the brand didn’t offer two-way zippers, which many find helpful for easy diaper changes. However, Burt’s Bees listened to their customers and has since introduced two-way zippers on select rompers and sleepers, demonstrating its commitment to meeting parents' practical needs. Based on my personal experience with the brand and mom's feedback on the forums, one thing to keep in mind is that the sizing tends to run larger than average.

“Easy to put on and take off’ was the top-rated concern in our survey of moms about organic baby clothing. When it comes to simplifying the dressing process, Baby GAP truly stands out. The brand is known for its thoughtful designs, and parents in our research raved about features that make dressing and undressing a breeze—even for the squirmiest babies. I especially loved the two-way zippers, which made nighttime changes much easier for my boys when they were newborns.

The brand’s pieces, like their rompers, bodysuits and classic three-snap onesies, are comfortable, cute, and incredibly practical, with easy access for diaper changes and quick outfit swaps. Baby GAP’s convertible sleep gowns are also praised for nighttime wear and can convert into one-piece outfits with a few snaps. I also love the generous lapped shoulders on Baby GAP’s bodysuits and onesies. They stretch nicely, making dressing easier; you pull them down instead of up over baby’s head.

Baby GAP’s clothing is especially appreciated by parents who value style and functionality, perfectly balancing effortless dressing and organic fabrics. For moms who prioritize ease of use without compromising on quality, Baby GAP is our top contender.

What We Love
  • Great basics
  • Comparatively affordable
  • High quality
Things To Consider
  • Simple basics
  • Minimal prints

For tall, slim babies who need organic fits, Primary has you covered. In our research, we found that moms can’t stop praising the brand for its perfect fit for long, skinny little ones. When mamas asked for the best brand for this body type, Primary was consistently recommended as their go-to choice. And from personal experience, I can attest that Primary was a great option for my older son, who was long and narrow. However, my younger son, who is much chunkier, didn’t quite fit in the Primary clothing (specifically the rompers and sleepers).

With GOTS-certified organic baby clothing and sustainable, plastic-free packaging, Primary is a choice that moms feel good about. As Katie, a mom of one, says: “Primary has awesome, durable clothes that are easy to use. I love how they have so many eco-certifications because that type of manufacturing is really important to me when choosing clothes for my baby. I feel good purchasing from Primary."

While organic baby clothes often feature muted color palettes, Primary stands out with bold, playful hues and gender-neutral styles for babies and toddlers. We love that parents can easily filter by color when shopping this adorable, soft, and basic organic line, and that the brand offers clothing up to size 14.

  • Soft yet durable
Things To Consider

When you think of baby clothing, it’s hard not to think of Carter’s—a brand that’s become a staple for so many parents. Little Planet is the brand’s organic collection, which received rave reviews from our Bump survey respondents (as well as moms across the internet) for its value and affordability. Alice*, mom of a one-year-old, praised Little Planet in several categories, highlighting its practicality and eco-conscious appeal: "I liked that they were mostly gender-neutral, which means they could be worn by future children (economic and eco-friendly to re-wear). They were easy to find on sale. And they seem comfortable, and wash well." While some moms noted that the clothing might be "slightly more expensive than standard fare at those stores," it is widely recognized as one of the most affordable organic options available.

Moms also rave about Little Planet’s softness and durability. Faith, mom of a one-year-old, shares: "I like the fabric used and that it seems softer than other materials while still being durable." We love that Little Planet offers organic, comfortable clothing that is both affordable and eco-friendly. In a market where organic baby clothing can often be expensive, Little Planet by Carter’s provides an affordable price tag (with frequent sales) and eco-conscious designs, making it an ideal option for families who want to dress their babies in organic fabrics without breaking the bank.

What We Love
  • Thick, durable cotton
  • True to size
  • Extensive collection
Things To Consider
  • Expensive
  • Cotton doesn’t stretch as much as other brands

Pehr has quickly become a favorite among parents looking for durable, stylish and eco-friendly clothing for their little ones. The brand is known for its high-quality organic fabrics; Pehr’s collection combines softness with long-lasting construction—perfect for babies, and for toddlers who are always on the move. In our research, parents loved the thickness of the cotton, complimenting its durability compared to other brands. 100% organic cotton fleece and French terry offer a variety of textures and styles for baby, all while maintaining the safety of pure organic cotton.

When we had our first child, some parents advised my husband and I not to spend too much on baby clothes, since babies grow out of things quickly. We soon learned that the pieces we invested a little more money into lasted longer—not only did my older son wear them until he outgrew them, but they’re now passed down to my little guy! Yes, Pehr is expensive; however, parents claim the line is worth the investment. As Lindsey (a survey respondent and mom of one) says, “They are very durable. And I like [that] they’re gender-neutral, especially because they’re more expensive.” Even if you pass them down to a child of the opposite gender, they work well. Whether it's their cozy onesies, adorable rompers or soft baby shoes, Pehr’s clothing is made to withstand wear and tear while staying gentle on delicate skin.

What to Look For in Organic Baby Clothes

When shopping for organic baby clothes, look for reputable labels and certifications to ensure you get genuine, safe products. Third-party certifications to look for include:

  • GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard). The toughest organic textile standard is also the world’s leading textile processing authority for organic fibers. Not only is the farming process verified, so is every step of manufacturing—including a guarantee of no child or slave labor.
  • OEKO-TEX Standard 100. This common label tests for unhealthy chemicals and harmful substances.
  • USDA Organic. To meet the USDA-organic criteria, clothes must be composed of a minimum of 95 percent organic components; they also must be produced using USDA-certified organic crops.

Other labels, such as Fair Trade Certified or Certified B Corporation, may also indicate that the brand meets ethical and sustainability standards. These certifications give parents peace of mind that the clothes they’re buying are organic and produced with environmental and social responsibility in mind.

Why Choose Organic Baby Clothes?

We asked Stephanie Olivero, owner and founder of Baxter+Bayard, about the importance of going organic, and she told us, “When you consider the size of a baby or a child and the ratio of what they’re exposed to in terms of chemicals, organic yarns are so imperative. […] The more we can lean into organic yarns with minimal chemicals, the better it is for the child and for the environment.”

One of the most popular fabrics used in baby clothing is cotton. This classic material is soft, breathable, and gentle on baby’s sensitive skin, making it a go-to choice for parents. However, cotton is also one of the world’s most pesticide-heavy crops, with toxic chemicals commonly used in its cultivation. But organic cotton is grown without synthetic fertilizers, pesticides or harmful chemicals. Organic farming avoids these chemicals and uses fewer resources, requiring less fuel and energy and producing less carbon. Since organic cotton farming doesn’t involve toxic chemicals, it also helps prevent water contamination. In other words, organic baby clothing can be a safer choice for your baby and the environment. “If a baby has a sensitivity, address that with their doctor or expert,” Olivero says, “but certainly a product they are using should not be a cause for that, and I think the best way to ensure that’s not happening is to avoid chemicals and non-organic products.”

Of course, organic baby clothes can come at a premium. As Olivero explains, “Organic should not be price-prohibitive.” While organic products typically cost more, weighing the cost against the benefits is important. If your budget allows, consider investing in organic essentials for items that have the most direct contact with baby’s skin throughout the day—like onesies, hats, and sleepwear. High-quality organic baby clothing is designed to be durable, often lasting through many washes.

As Olivero points out, “Educated consumers are recognizing it’s less about buying volume and owning things and more about where you want to buy products and the versatility of those products.” This less-is-more mindset is gaining traction, with more consumers becoming conscious of what they buy and the materials and manufacturing processes behind those purchases. The good news is that the growing demand for organic products has led to more affordable options, meaning you can often find items that fit your budget without sacrificing quality. Or, if you’re willing to invest a little more, you can focus on fewer high-quality pieces that will stand the test of time.
