When you’re shopping for maternity lingerie, Vigneron suggests thinking about what you want to highlight. “I am a fan of embracing your favorite assets,” she says. “If you never had a large chest and suddenly do, it might be fun to buy something that accentuates that, as trying something fun and new can be amazing for both you and your partner.” Beyond that, consider these elements:
- Fit. In general, maternity lingerie sizing will match up with your pre-pregnancy size. These items are designed to grow with you or to have a little more stretch than usual, so you should be able to match your usual size to your lingerie.
- Flexibility. Many maternity bras and lingerie will have a little stretch to accommodate your changing size. If you’re shopping for a bra, look for something with multiple rows of hook and eye closure—this will give you space to change up the fit as you grow.
- Fabric. There isn’t necessarily a particular fabric that’s “best,” Vigneron says. However, fabrics that are stretchy and breathable are best, she says. “I’m a fan of anything sheer or mesh while pregnant, as I find it to be beautiful and breathable,” she says.
- Comfort. This is key when you’re pregnant. “When pregnant, little things may cause sensitivity that wouldn’t have normally,” Vigneron says. “The more comfortable one is, the more confident they can feel.”
