The Best Wagon Strollers, Tested by On-the-Go Families
In a nutshell:
Based on feedback from our independent product testers, we chose the Baby Trend Expedition 2-in-1 Stroller Wagon PLUS as the overall best wagon stroller for kids. This hybrid design stood out because of its ease of pushing and pulling on various terrains, reasonable price point and simple fold.
Kids’ wagons have stood the test of time for a reason: They make outings fun for little ones and easier for their parents. Today’s models have plenty of convenient features that make them more similar to standard strollers. Because of this, many families use stroller wagons as an alternative to a double stroller or even as their main set of wheels. Plus, if you’re using it with siblings, they’ll be able to face each other for conversations and play. If your toddler is resistant to their stroller these days, a wagon could be key to keeping them safely strapped in on the go.
Ready to find the best wagon stroller for your family? To streamline your search, we put nine top-rated kids’ wagons to the test with families nationwide.
To help you pick out the best kids’ wagon for your family, we identified 15 of the top stroller wagons on the market. We then created a shortlist of nine options to test with parents and their children. From there:
- We enlisted the help of nine independent product testers to road-test these stroller wagons with their own children. After testing them in their local neighborhoods, at the beach, while running errands and everywhere in between, the parents evaluated the gear across several categories. These included ease of pulling and pushing, ease of steering, ease of folding and unfolding, features, design and style and value for money. Based on these results, we chose 6 stroller wagons to feature in our article.
- To understand how these stroller wagons have worked for other families, we conducted exhaustive market research, scouring forums and message boards and reading user reviews to find out what parents nationwide looked for in kids’ wagons.
- When choosing which stroller wagons to feature in our roundup, we also considered factors such as the number of seats, size when folded and unfolded, car seat compatibility, whether it can be pushed and pulled and so much more.

Overall best wagon stroller
- Easy to push and steer, according to our tester
- Simple to fold
- Plenty of storage space
- Reasonable price point
- Can’t fit both a car seat and a second child
- Doesn’t have dedicated footwells
Baby Trend is known for its top-tier baby gear that strikes the balance between durability, quality and comfort—and the Expedition 2-in-1 Stroller Wagon PLUS is no exception. Out of all the wagon strollers we tested, this model stood out among the rest because of its ease of pushing and pulling, which is a key component in any stroller wagon. “I was super impressed with how smooth it was to push and pull this wagon. On smooth terrain like the sidewalk, it took no effort,” our product tester, Jamie, told us. While she noted that it “took a little effort” to maneuver on uneven terrain, “overall it was still very smooth and the tires did very well.” The mom of two tested it around her neighborhood, in the store and on a bumpy trail in the woods, and it could handle it all easily. “Even pulling uphill was a lot easier than other wagons we have tried,” Jamie reported.
This ease of pushing and pulling can be attributed to the wagon stroller’s two-handle design. Rather than using the same handle to push and pull, the Expedition 2-in-1 Stroller Wagon PLUS has one main push handle (that’s angled like a stroller handle for comfort) and a hidden straight pull handle on its base. Thanks to this clever feature, you can pull the wagon when needed and tuck it away when using it as a stroller. “Steering was extremely easy on all sorts of terrain, especially in the store,” Jamie told us, pointing out that short and wide turns were no issue. Moreover, she said it was simple for both her and her partner to use. “The handlebar grip was perfect. My husband is tall, and I’m short, and I love that we could adjust it to suit our needs.”
The couple tested the Expedition 2-in-1 Stroller Wagon PLUS with their one-year-old and 3-year-old, and both toddlers fit comfortably in the spacious interior. This wagon stroller has two built-in seats with three-point safety harness belts, which Jamie appreciated. “Buckling the kids safely was no problem. The [belts] were easier to operate than others I’ve tried,” she said. The large push brake also makes it easy to park the wagon when needed—plus, folding it was a breeze. “My husband had zero trouble folding and unfolding the wagon. He could do it with one hand,” Jamie shared, adding that they could store it in their home and trunk when needed.
In addition to space for your kiddos, this wagon stroller has ample room for anything you may need while out and about. The storage basket can be flipped so you can use it at the front or back of the wagon, depending on your needs. “The outside caddy was great for a small bag with diapers and wipes. All the storage compartments were very easy to access,” said Jamie. The center console with two cupholders and snack trays as well as space in the handlebar for your keys, phone and a drink were also highlighted during testing. All in all, this kids’ wagon impressed Jamie and her husband across all categories and they’d definitely recommend it to other parents. “It feels very durable and worth the investment,” they shared.

“Overall my husband and I were impressed with this wagon. Everything worked well and was easy to adjust and maneuver. I would definitely recommend it to other parents that were in the markets for a solid wagon.”
Best compact-fold wagon stroller
- Easy to maneuver, according to our tester
- Compact fold for simple storage
- Extendable footwell
- Can be hosed down
- Mixed reviews about its ability on sand
- Shades and over accessories sold separately
Wagons can sometimes be bulky, cumbersome pieces of baby gear, which makes storage an issue when it’s not in use. Luckily, you won’t run into that problem with the Veer All-Terrain Cruiser. This impressive stroller wagon for kids offers a highly compact fold, so it’s a breeze to travel with and store. To fold it, simply push the seats and side walls down so they lay flat, unlock the handlebar and put it down until it feels secure—then, you’re all set. In this mode, it’s just 14 inches high, the slimmest fold of any wagon we tested. Even better, the all-terrain tires can be easily removed for a flatter profile of 9 inches. This stood out to our tester Michelle. “It can fit in just about any size trunk, and the wheels easily pop on and off, which can help it fit in even smaller trunks/spaces. Getting it in and out of the trunk isn’t a struggle! It can even be stored standing up when folded,” she praised.
Just because the Veer All-Terrain is slim and compact when folded doesn’t mean you’ll miss out on high-quality features when it’s unfolded. In fact, it even has an extendable footwell, giving your little ones more space while seated. Michelle, mom of a 2-year-old and 4-year-old, was also thoroughly impressed by how easy it was to maneuver this wagon stroller. She told us that “even with two toddlers in it, it’s still super easy to push. It does great on just about any terrain.” She did note that it was tricky to push on sand but “not impossible.” That said, one of Michelle’s favorite parts about the Veer is the adjustable handlebar. “It’s so easy to grip onto, and every time I use our other wagon, I think about how much better the Veer handlebar is,” she shared.
You may have seen this widely popular stroller wagon before (even Rihanna and A$AP Rocky have been spotted with it!), so you know that it’s sleek and stylish. Michelle was also a big fan of the simple yet luxe design. “The cool part about it is even if it’s not your style, [Veer] sells different colored/patterned panels, but personally I love the black! I wouldn’t change anything about the design, to be honest,” she shared. The ultra-durable wagon doesn’t just look pretty—it’s also made with a sturdy, welded aluminum frame and has rugged foam tires. This way, you can count on it for many adventures to come. According to Michelle: “The quality just can’t be beat.”

Our product tester says:
“I think folding and unfolding this wagon is easier than other brands! It can easily be done with just one hand and it’d be super easy for anyone to figure out.”
Best four-seater wagon stroller
- Raised, reclining seats
- Ample foot space for four kids
- Can be stored upright
- Stylish, according to our tester
- Heaviest wagon on our list
- Can be tough to maneuver over rough terrain
- Handlebar height can’t be adjusted
Transporting multiple kiddos isn’t easy, but a four-seater stroller wagon can make the process more seamless, fun and comfortable for everyone. Our favorite is the WONDERFOLD W4 Elite Stroller Wagon, which impressed our tester Elise across almost all categories. As the mom of a one-year-old and 3-year-old triplets, her family needs a go-to set of wheels to keep everyone content and secure, and this wagon checks both of those boxes and then some. “Compared to a double stroller, the wagon offers more space and versatility,” Elise told us.
The wagon stroller has four raised seats, each with a five-point safety harness, that can recline to accommodate naptime and changing needs throughout the day. Because the seats are raised, the wagon’s interior also has ample foot space for your little ones (read: they won’t be kicking each other as much on the go), which makes this unique compared to other wagons we tested. Getting in and out is easy—kiddos can be lifted or climb in themselves via the front zippered entrance. And while it doesn’t have a snack tray or kids’ cupholders like some other wagons on the market, it does have an adjustable sun canopy and a roll-out wind shade to keep them comfortable, no matter the weather. For added convenience, this wagon is also equipped with plenty of storage space; it has pockets on all four sides and a removable zippered rear basket to hold extra essentials.
Pushing and pulling the WONDERFOLD W4 Elite Stroller Wagon was generally straightforward for Elise and her partner, especially on smooth ground. However, it was a bit trickier on uneven terrain. “The stroller wagon was manageable to push with all four of my children on board, but it did feel notably heavy on inclines and rough terrain,” Elise reported. “Pulling it was relatively easy as well, although the wagon's size could make it slightly cumbersome in tight spaces.” That said, she found that the wagon stroller’s all-terrain tires with suspension performed well overall and could manage most scenarios. Plus, she appreciated that, despite its large size, this wagon was relatively simple to store at home. “I love that the wagon can be stored upright, which definitely saves space in our garage,” Elise shared.
This premium four-seater wagon stroller has a high price tag, but Elise says it’s a worthwhile investment, especially if you have multiples. “While not the cheapest option on the market its quality, upscale features and versatility justify the cost,” she explains. “As parents of four small children, including a set of triplets, the Wonderfold is an essential investment that we’ve been using nearly daily for over three years.” Needless to say, the WONDERFOLD W4 Elite will be a regular addition to family outings for years to come.

Our product tester says:
“As parents of triplets and a younger singleton sibling, all under 4, the Wonderfold is our go-to stroller and we use it for just about everything.”
Best wagon stroller for use with a car seat
- Ample space for infant car seat and toddler
- Great on all terrains, according to our tester
- Adjustable handlebar
- Extendable footwell
- Car seat attachment can obstruct view of the tires
Car seat compatibility is a key feature for parents who want a kids’ wagon that they can use with their infants and toddlers. And even though many stroller wagons offer car seat adaptors these days, one issue that came up when testing wagons with car seats was that there wasn’t enough room for a second child once the car seat was installed. However, that wasn’t the case with the Gladly Family Anthem2 2-Seater All-Terrain Wagon Stroller. “I thought this wagon was the perfect size for my kids,” said Savannah, mom of a 6-month-old and a 3-year-old. This option boasts a spacious interior that measures 41 inches long and nearly 26 inches wide, offering ample space for an infant in a car seat and their older sibling. For added comfort, it even has an extendable footwell for seated toddlers.
The only downside to the car seat is the height of its position in relation to the second seat, but this is true of almost all stroller wagons and double strollers. “With the car seat attached, my toddler’s view was a little obstructed, but honestly he didn’t notice or seem to care. He liked looking all around on the sides too,” Savannah shared. Being 5'3", she also noted that the car seat slightly obscured her view of the front wheels when steering. However, her taller husband didn’t have that issue. The couple also appreciated that the handlebar could be moved up or down to accommodate both of their heights comfortably.
Savannah and her family tested the Gladly Family Anthem2 on sidewalks at their local park and grass and gravel trails in their neighborhood. Thanks to its large, rugged wheels and sturdy suspension, the children’s wagon excelled in both situations. “With other strollers we have, I sometimes struggle to push them over the rough paths behind our house or if we’re in public and there are no concrete paths. I couldn’t believe how easily this wagon rode over rougher terrain. This wagon was surprisingly lightweight to pull and push,” Savannah shared.
Additionally, this wagon for kids offers tons of storage space, which Savannah was a fan of. She loved the extra compartment that was attached to the front, and said she was able to fit her large diaper bag in it. The handlebar storage was great for everyday essentials—plus, it had a lid to keep belongings secure. Moreover, the sun canopies for each seat were also a bonus. After testing, Savannah told us she couldn’t wait to bring this kids’ wagon stroller on more family outings. “I honestly think this will last years with both of them and my 3-year-old is in the 90th percentile for height,” she praised.

Our product tester says:
“My 3-year-old can get in and out of the wagon himself easily, and I loved how easy it was to add my infant’s carrier car seat. I also loved that adding the car seat didn’t affect how easy the wagon was to push.”
Best wagon stroller for country life
- Most lightweight option on our list
- Wide, overlapping sun canopies
- Extendable footwell
- Easy-clean, durable material
- Handlebar isn’t adjustable
- Mixed reviews about its ability on sand
If you live in a suburban or rural area, a stroller wagon that can handle uneven ground and varied terrain is a must-have—and The Wagon from Joey definitely meets that requirement. From rural areas to sidewalks and paved roads, our tester Danielle pushed and pulled this toddler wagon across many different surfaces. Overall, she thought it was a breeze to maneuver in most scenarios. “If used in your neighborhood this wagon is going to feel like a luxury vehicle. There is very little strain on the person pulling the wagon,” she shared. “We also took this wagon with us to the local farm to grab some groceries and then have lunch. The wagon can be easily pushed over hilly grass and uneven earth.” Thanks to the Joey’s all-terrain tires, lightweight design and comfortably positioned handlebar, Danielle told us: “I felt like I could pull or push it for hours causing me no physical tension or discomfort.”
The only place Danielle found it challenging to use this stroller wagon was at the beach, however it was doable. To get the Joey across dry or wet sand, she recommends pulling rather than pushing. She also appreciated that “when using it on the beach the wheels did not get sandy, nor did the inside of the wagon.” And when the tires accumulated a thin layer of dust after the farm, Danielle was able to wipe it clean in seconds.
Another aspect that stood out to Danielle during testing was this wagon’s super-simple folding technique. Similar to the Veer, all you have to do is push down the seats so that they lay flat and then unlock the handlebar and do the same. “It takes less than 20 seconds to fold or unfold this wagon,” she praised, “You can fold or unfold this wagon with one hand, which I did often because my other arm was holding my 8-month-old.” Danielle told us she was also able to pick this wagon up and load it into the trunk of her car with one hand, which is impressive to say the least!
When it comes to additional features, the Joey is anything but lacking. It has six cupholders, a center console with snack trays and an extendable footwell to keep your kiddos comfy. Whether it’s a sunny fall morning or a misty, windy spring afternoon, you can count on the wide canopies to protect your little ones from the elements. Danielle said that the shades expanded to overlap in the middle, so they completely covered her kids—a great feature for outdoor country strolls. “The look of the canopies are also high-end and aesthetically pleasing. My daughter even liked having it up due to the wind,” she shared. The bottom line: “This wagon may be a better alternative than a double stroller. The design is gorgeous and the fabric is easy to clean,” says Danielle.

Our product tester says:
“I was very happy with the way the wagon handled in most terrains and situations. I felt my children were very safe while I either pulled or pushed the wagon due to the 5-point safety harness and the suspension. I also really appreciated how far the canopies extended and shielded my children from the sun.”
Best affordable wagon stroller
- Easy to push on varied terrain, according to our tester
- Most affordable option on our list
- Separate push and pull handles
- Our tester wished it had more foot space
- No locking mechanism when closed
- Not car seat-compatible
Families who already have a primary stroller or who don’t want to spend a small fortune on baby gear can count on this affordable wagon stroller to get the job done. The Radio Flyer Discovery Stroll 'N Wagon has the lowest price point out of the wagons we tested, while still offering a smooth experience for parents and kids. Our tester Sarah and her family used this stroller wagon on several outings, ranging from a trip to Target to a local city playground. “It was really easy to maneuver the wagon on all types of terrain,” Sarah reported. As the slimmest, smallest stroller wagon on our list, it was also simple to steer and turn in tight spaces, like the aisles of a store. To allow others to get by, Sarah told us that “it was pretty easy to ‘parallel park’ the wagon and get it really close to the side of the aisle.”
When using it around the city with her one-year-old and 2-year-old, Sarah appreciated that the Radio Flyer wagon was lightweight. She told us that it “didn't feel too heavy to pull, even with two kids and playground gear (three sets of roller blades, jump ropes) in it.” The large, 12-inch rear wheels ensured that going up and down curbs wasn’t bumpy for her toddlers. And when it was time to put it away for the day, folding wasn’t an issue. “The wagon is very easy to fold, since all you have to do is lift a handle in the middle of the seat. It took me less than 10 seconds to learn to fold the wagon,” Sarah praised, adding that it was equally straightforward to unfold.
The Radio Flyer Discovery Stroll ‘N Wagon is also packed with plenty of convenient features to meet your family’s needs on the go. The children’s wagon’s zippered side entrance allows kids to get in and out independently, which Sarah and her toddlers loved. The family also appreciated the spacious cupholders, the large sun canopies (complete with magnetic peek-a-boo windows) and the separate push and pull handles. Overall, you can rely on this budget-friendly toddler wagon to get your little ones from point A to point B with ease, whether you’re walking through a park or navigating a busy sidewalk.

“We took the wagon around our neighborhood, on uneven sidewalks, into and around Target, to our local playground and to a park near us (onto the grass and dirt). It was really easy to maneuver the wagon on all types of terrain. […] Compared to other wagons, I would recommend this wagon as a budget option for other parents.”

Whether you have a big outing on the horizon or need something new to get your little ones (literally) on board, a wagon stroller is a great option for most families. As you shop, keep the following in mind to streamline your search:
- Size. Kids’ wagons are meant to hold a lot without sacrificing mobility—whether that’s a lot of toys, a lot of children or a lot of pounds in general. As a result, most are larger than your average stroller, so you’ll want to think about dimensions (and where you’ll be storing it) before purchasing. Likewise, consider the product’s weight limits, age rating and safety instructions.
- Car seat compatibility. Many parents use kids’ wagons as an alternative to full-size or double strollers, which makes car seat compatibility a top priority for some. If you already have a car seat, you’ll want to ensure the wagon will work with your model. Most brands offer car seat adaptors separate from the stroller wagon, which will likely be an additional cost. Moreover, if you plan to use your wagon with your infant and toddler, double-check its dimensions. Some stroller wagons may not leave much room for a second child once the car seat is installed, which was flagged as an issue by our product testers.
- Folding ability. Families who plan to use their wagon in lieu of a traditional stroller will also want to consider folding. This will be important if you frequently put it in the trunk of your car or need something compact when storing it at home.
- Foot space. A common complaint during our testing process was that some stroller wagons lacked dedicated footwells for kiddos. As a result, siblings don’t have their own room, which isn’t ideal. If you want to avoid this, go with a wagon that offers ample foot space for each child.
- All-terrain wheels. For families planning to use their stroller wagons at the beach, on woodsy walks or anywhere else with uneven ground, all-terrain wheels are a must. These tires are designed with treads to provide traction on different surfaces.
- Additional features. These days, fun colorways barely scratch the surface when it comes to wagon add-ons. Some are outfitted with UV-protective canopies, removable storage caddies, parent consoles and even cupholders for kids and adults. Not all stroller wagons come with every additional feature, so consider which ones are important to you to help identify the best option for your family. With a few (or all!) of these accessories, both you and your kiddos are sure to be comfortable on your next adventure.
Types of wagon strollers
Contemporary kids’ wagons offer similar features to strollers (think: extendable sun canopies and car seat clip-ins) but they have higher weight limits and extra storage compartments. As a result, they’re a great choice for on-the-go families with multiple kiddos or who need a bit more space. There are two main types of children’s wagons on the market: Standard kids’ wagons and hybrid options. Here are the key differences:
- Standard kids’ wagons. This type of wagon is designed with a handle just for pulling.
- Hybrid kids’ wagons: Conversely, this type of wagon has a handle—or sometimes two handles—that allows parents to push it like a stroller and pull it like a classic wagon when needed.
