Sex and the City was based on the book by Candace Bushnell. But Bushnell didn’t just fabricate this way of life for the sake of exciting fiction. She lived the lifestyle of Carrie Bradshaw and had her own column in the New York Observer that gave the show its name. She initially moved to New York to pursue an acting career but eventually pursued freelance and columnist writing. But the legacy doesn’t stop unfolding there because Bushnell actually got the idea from Helen Gurley Brown’s book, “Sex and the Single Girl”, published in 1962. Women have been relating to each other’s plights and successes across decades, and this is a camaraderie everyone should be delighted to be a part of.
